In concrete tank projects, where sealing is very important, sometimes some unpredicted events cause many problems for the contractor as well as other executives.
Concrete cracks are one of the causes of water tank leakage, which is eliminated by water stop tapes.
If concrete placing is not interrupted in the right spots of the walls of the tanks during concrete placing, due to reasons such as the failure of the concrete pump, it will become problematic for sealing the concrete. Even, sometimes it is instructed to apply water stop tape (which is impossible) or to demolish half-poured concrete, which may seem to be the only solution.
This construction challenge can be overcome by Today’s achievements in the concrete additives industry. The attempt in this paper is to solve this problem by creating a watertight joint without a water stop tape with merely concrete sealing additives that seal the concrete and bond to the old concrete.
Based on this procedure, a new product of the concrete industry is applied in accordance with the design and the cross section of concrete placing cut for sealing the spot of the accidental cut in concrete placing.
Important Points
- Quick implementation of separation joints in the event of problems during concrete placing in water tanks
- Studying the properties and the behavior of concrete as well as its additives and performing various sealing tests on the damaged laboratory samples, a method was achieved for repairing the accidental cut or repair of concrete. Topic 9 of the National construction regulation should be used in order to generalize this method for the construction of accidental separation joints in concrete.
- By examining the concrete and its additives as well as laboratory and construction site controls, it is possible to design accidental watertight concrete in order to solve one of the site problems.
