Introduction to the Concrete Damp Proof and Sealant Additive
(NSG-N50, NSG-SH7, NSG-Z90)
Concrete damp proof and sealant additives prevent water penetration in the concrete or restrict moisture movement or water transfer to the concrete. Naming the damp proofs and sealant additives is done based on how they function in concrete.
Sealing additives such as NSG-N50 are materials that reduce the concrete permeability of and restrict the free movement of water in the concrete.
On the other hand, damp proofs and sealant additives such as NSG-Z90 are water repellent materials that reduce the concrete moisture usually caused by water penetration in capillary pores. These materials are mainly used when low-pressure water such as rainwater is moistening the concrete surface.
Damp proofs and sealant additives can be classified based on their physical and chemical properties:
- Ultra-micro neutral particles as concrete pore fillers that are involved in the cement hydration process.
- Ultra-micro particles that react with the materials of the cement hydration process.
In addition, using water-reducing additives such as NSG-SH7 the water-to-cement ratio and therefore the permeability of the concrete is reduced. Thus, concrete permeability and concrete durability will be increased indirectly, especially against the thawing-freezing cycle if these additives are used.
