Advantages of Crystalline Permeable Materials
Concrete is the most applied important material in the construction of various types of structures and superstructures, But it has some weaknesses due to its nature and content structure in spite of its tenaciousness.
These weaknesses make concrete vulnerable, particularly to the water and chemicals intrusion as well as changes in weather conditions and loading. Therefore, the concrete structures’ performance, longevity, and durability and might be reduced significantly.
Good news is that there are many ways to deal with concrete destructive factors. One of the most important ways is to use the technology of crystalline permeable materials of the concrete and consequently improve the durability and longevity of the concrete. With the advantage of the systems of the crystalline permeable materials, these weaknesses can be overcome and the cost of long-term repairs can be greatly reduced.
The concrete consists of aggregate, cement and water. When cement particles are hydrated in reaction with water, they form calcium silicate. The compound, then hardens to form a rocky mass.
Concrete is a water-based material. For better performance of concrete, ease of concrete placing as well as concrete consolidation, more water is needed than the water required for hydration. This excess water lasts in the concrete mass and evaporates over time. As a result of this evaporation, capillary ducts and pores remain in the concrete, which is the most important reason for the porosity and permeability of the concrete.
Pores, holes, capillary ducts, and porosities can also be observed in the hardened concrete, allowing water and corrosive chemicals to enter the concrete. The more connected these pores are, the more permeable the concrete is. Excess water also increases the number of shrinkage cracks during curing. These cracks are the passage of water and chemicals. The deeper cracks make the bars corrode faster.
In order to reduce the amount of water in the concrete mix, it is possible to apply NSG Co. super lubricants can be used. Although the porous parts remain in the concrete, their dimensions are reduced and the permeability is reduced to some extent. In comparison with other super lubricants, the NSG Co. super lubricant leads to a higher slump and a much lower water percentage.
